VINTAGE 1950’s TWEED FIBER RAWHIDE TRIM PORSCHE 356 LUGGAGE RACK SUITCASE R$898
My bags are the antidote for the poly-lined synthetic leather run-of-the-mill bags being produced in China. Most of my bags are full-grain leather; Artisan craft, with authentic distressed character, and many with modifications unique to our line. We only use high-grade men's belts for shoulder straps. This leather is reminiscent of equestrian leather halter straps. I also use half centimeter thick mooseskin. Nothing wimpy here; quality and character that stands out and stands the test of a truly rugged lifestyle.
Invest in a bag that you'll love more and more over time. Not all leather bags are created the same. A great quality leather bag is supposed to look better with time as the leather acquires marks and age-related wear.
Make sure to check out my whole store. At the time of this listing, I have 180 items all unique and different. Many with added Mooseskin handles; my "trademark" unique idea. Once you have tried it you will wonder how you functioned before without an inside handle. Also on many of my briefcases, I add a mooseskin handle wrap. The handle is the point of contact that the owner has with their bag and mooseskin is so pleasing to touch.

What I love about this great old suitcase are the following.
• Made in Racine, Wisconsin by Wheary: Wheary, Incorporated was founded in 1922 by George H. Wheary and Harry Burge in Racine, Wisconsin. Its industry was trunks/luggage and its headquarters remained in Racine, Wisconsin. It was sold to the Hartmann Trunk Company in 1955 which it became a division of.
• The "switch-blade" clasps are really cool (please note the open and closed positions photos.) They swing open in what reminds me of a "switch-blade". Very cool.
• The inside is very clean; I would say a 8 on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the cleanest. There are what look like only a couple of water stains inside.
• All the inside elastic has not lost any spring to it. They snap back when you pull them. This is really rare for a case of this age. Nearly all of the cases I run across, from this era, have saggy elastic. They must have used a high-quality rubber which could date this case late 1940's. I really do not understand why they still have their snap?!? I guess it was made in the USA and back then quality and longevity of use was king.
• The stripe and edgings are what appear to be rawhide. I cannot verify this as I am not an expert at rawhide. It could be fiberglass. I am not sure but rawhide is my best guess. The corners show a slight wear which has a worn leather look so that also makes me think rawhide. The corners have taken a beating but have not worn through at all. The rawhide's stitching has come loose but because it is so tough I do not see this as a problem only a little bit more of a well-loved look. I considered gluing it but decided that the glue would make it look worse.
• I love the charm of the chrome corner designs; they remind me of the old Classic Automobiles Chrome of the same era. They really make the piece; a piece of art in my opinion. It was missing a chrome piece so I replaced it with a moose skin bumper. It does not look perfect but does look well-loved.
• Also It has a luggage tag from the same era. Fairfield Aircraft Corporation. From the web:

It was established as the parent company for Fairchild's many aviation interests.
